Evendale Recreation Commission
August 18, 2005
Called to Order at 7:34am
Roll Call: David Nichols, Wayne Mosley, Mary Lou Isaac, Mike Flavin, Michelle Gottschlich, Jeff Albrinck. Absent: Beth McDaniel, Molly McMahon
Recognition of Visitors: Gary Toner, Cincinnati Pool Management
Season summary:
- Zero-depth ramp’s skid pad was resolved
- the pool opened on time
- it was good season, minimal deck algae problems (thanks to Andy and Susan’s
aggressive attack with the power washer), every area in general seems cleaner
- moral seems to be up
- Evendale lifeguards competed in the annual lifeguard competition for the first time placing
fourth in timing and 21st in overall points (out of 52 teams).
- only problem seemed to be with the swim lessons (at least one instructor did not show up)
- all health inspections were passed
2006 will bring:
- new staff to replace those graduating
- maybe the hosting of the lifeguard competition on the local or even state level
- CPM will also remind all the staff of the labor laws.
- CPM will also look at getting a commitment from the swim lesson instructors to be here
for the lessons
Motion to approve June’s minutes made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Michelle Gottschlich. Motion passed.
New Business:
The department currently pro-rates some resident memberships after June 30th, this will end starting in 2006. Memberships will no longer be pro-rated for current residents; however, new residents who move in after July 1 will be allowed to purchase full facility, racquetball, and fitness memberships at 50% off the full year rate.
Motion to amend the current resident membership policy made by Jeff Albrinck; seconded by Mike Flavin. Motion passed.
Old Business:
A) Budget
Capital requests include scoring plungers for swim team, shade system for the side patio (sub-committee’s recommendation raised to $25, 000 that way we could look at a permanent style cover).
Motion to accept, and recommend, the budget to the Council Committee made by Jeff Albrinck; seconded by Michelle Gottschlich. Motion passed.
B) Leisure Paths & the Five Year Master Plan
- A meeting was held with the Wyoming Recreation Director and their grants manager.
- The sub-committee will meet again next month and request Gorman Heritage Farm, Park Hills Homeowner Association, Hamilton County Parks District, and Jeff Albrinck to join them.
- Jack Cameron is working on getting the plats for the lands that Evendale owns so paths & signage can be discussed.
- A resolution will be requested from council regarding the pursuit of grants for the leisure paths.
- Dave will contact Gary Goosman, Gorman Heritage Farm, and get their trail plan.
- Contact with Wal-Mart will be continued regarding their community grants program.
C) Business Membership Policy
With the assistance of the Tax Department Administrator, the Recreation Director developed a verification of eligibility form. All prospective memberships will be required to fill one out. Motion to amend the current business membership policy made by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Mary Lou Isaac. Motion passed.
D) Sexual Offender Policy
- The Village Solicitor’s office found no reason why we should not be pro-active with a policy such as this.
- If an offender is found to be living in Evendale and that person has purchased a membership to the Recreation Center, a letter will be sent to the person notifying them we are aware of their record.
Motion to accept the new policy made by Michelle Gottschlich; seconded by Wayne Mosley. Motion passed.
E) Updated Policy Guideline manuals distributed
F) Tri-Health Report
The program format is changing. People will pay one lump sum each session; then they may take any of the Tri-Health programs (up to 15 classes per week). The first session under the new format begins September 12, 2005.
Director’s Report
August 26th hours are 8:00am - Noon for the fitness center only. The rest of the building will be closed for maintenance.
August 27th the Recreation Center will be closed entirely.
The pool has normal hours both dates.
Phi Lambda Pi Report
Texas Hold ‘em Poker & Euchre night went well, and was well attended.
Myrtle Beach was another fun week. This time they stayed in a beach house, which seemed to work well for kids and chaperones alike.
Open Discussion
- People have asked for the pool to open earlier than Noon; however, the attendance early on Saturdays does not support the need to open earlier. Also, swim team practices and swimming lessons are held before the pool opens so that programs do not interfere with the public hours/days.
- The Couple’s Golf Outing went well. Compliments are given to Kristen Maiden and Ron Cutter for another great golf event.
- Evendale Family Camp Out went very well by all reports. About 100 residents (25 families) pre-registered for the event. Many people said they had more fun than expected.
- The baseball field next to the Shelter House has an area where water saturates part of the field. Can Public Works install a drain system, or can the infield area be moved out or over 10 feet or so (shorten the outfield), therefore people could avoid the affected area of the field.
- Soccer field – Mike Flavin thanks everyone responsible for getting the grass to grow on Field 2.
Motion to adjourn made at 9:05am by Wayne Mosley; seconded by Michelle Gottschlich. Motion passed.
